Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, recently rolled out the 2025 update of the Grand Vitara, introducing new features, added safety, and improved hybrid accessibility. But in an unexpected move, the company has delisted the CNG variants of the SUV from its official Nexa website and brochures—leading to widespread speculation: Has the Maruti Grand Vitara CNG been discontinued?
Maruti Grand Vitara CNG: Delisted, But Not Confirmed Discontinued
The Maruti Grand Vitara CNG made its debut in 2023 and was powered by a 1.5-liter petrol-CNG engine producing 99 BHP and 136 Nm in petrol mode, while dropping to 87 BHP and 121.5 Nm when driven on CNG. It came paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and was praised for fuel efficiency but often criticized for lackluster performance in CNG mode.
Now, in April 2025, the CNG variants have vanished from the Nexa digital lineup, triggering rumors that the automaker might have pulled the plug on the CNG trim altogether. However, no official confirmation has been provided by Maruti Suzuki as of now.
Why Maruti Might Be Reconsidering CNG for Grand Vitara
There are a few logical reasons behind this possible decision:
- Low demand: Buyers in the compact SUV segment are leaning more toward hybrid technology for better performance and efficiency.
- Power complaints: Several users reported a noticeable power drop when using CNG.
- New focus on hybrids: Maruti has clearly shifted its strategy towards promoting hybrid technology in premium models.
Until Maruti issues a formal statement, this remains a speculative development. But all signs hint at a gradual phasing out of the Grand Vitara CNG variants.
What’s New in the 2025 Maruti Grand Vitara?
Even if the CNG model is on its way out, Maruti has beefed up the Grand Vitara lineup with new premium features and trims:
- Updated 17-inch alloy wheels
- 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat
- Electronic parking brake
- Rear window sunshades
In addition, existing features like the 9-inch touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and wireless charging remain part of the package.
Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid Now More Affordable
To attract more buyers toward its hybrid portfolio, Maruti has also introduced a new Delta Plus variant in the strong-hybrid lineup. Priced at ₹20.14 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), this version offers a more accessible entry point to Grand Vitara’s fuel-efficient strong hybrid tech.
